I want to talk a little bit about fear in today’s post. We all have it, it’s part of our human nature but sometimes fear is the killer of dreams. Fear likes to protect us. It is an unpleasant emotion caused by the belief that someone or something is dangerous, likely to cause pain or a threat. So, when fear arises, we tend to retreat into our shells, so we don’t get hurt. There is nothing wrong with wanting to feel protected and avoid unnecessary pain, but it becomes an issue when it keeps you from your dreams. How many of you out there have wanted to change your life?
Your job, that toxic relationship, your location? Or pursue your dream of starting a business (raising my hand). And how many times did you talk yourself out of it? That’s fear! It’s trying to keep you safe and out of harm’s way. It’s the killer of dreams.
I can’t tell you how many times fear has reared its ugly head whenever I get an idea for a business or a project or get excited about something that could change my life. It’s happened more that I want to think about. And it has taken me a very long time to step outside of fear to really go after what I want. I’m not a writer but I know I love to write and I’m excited about sharing all of this with you, so I decided to kick fear in the face. Not going to lie, it kicked me back. It was an MMA fight. Fear is strong, fear has a grip like no other and it is something you must actively work on to truly let go of. It’s never going to go away because its job is to alert you to danger. But if you allow it to consume you, you are allowing it to control your life. And trust me, you do not want that. We are powerful humans with incredible minds. Minds that can create the life we desire, the life we dream of. We must learn how to control those thoughts that say, “You can’t” to “Fuck yeah, I can, and I will.” Fear does not have to win, remember that.
Listen, I don’t have it all figured out. I still hug my little girl (Suzie w/ a Z) and assure her that we got this. We don’t have to live in fear anymore. And neither do you! I challenge you to sit with fear when it hits you. Sit with it, figure out why it’s there, thank it for coming to you and then tell it to go. You are made for greatness!
I’m stepping out of fear and choosing to walk into courage, and I hope you do too if you’re struggling. I’m building a community of like-minded humans, and I would love your comments and feedback.
